Generated documents

Six document types, where they materialize, how to export them and how to sync them back to GitHub.

Document types

TypeMaterialized pathContents
READMEREADME.mdOverview, setup and architecture summary
ARCHITECTUREdocs/ARCHITECTURE.mdModules, data flow, dependency map and risks
APIdocs/API.mdEndpoint reference built from detected routes
CONTRIBUTINGCONTRIBUTING.mdWorkflow, conventions and review rules
CHANGELOGCHANGELOG.mdDiff-driven release history
CODE_DOCdocs/code/<source-path>.mdPer-file documentation for the files selected during analysis; also available on demand with dxnx docs generate.

dxnx analyze start requests README, ARCHITECTURE and CODE_DOC by default. The dashboard defaults to README and lets you select the other repository-level types — API, ARCHITECTURE, CONTRIBUTING and CHANGELOG. CODE_DOC covers the files selected for the run.

How a document is built

Documents are assembled from parsed facts, not from a single free-form prompt:

  • Sections are anchored to graph nodes, so each one describes a file, module or symbol that exists.
  • Symbols, imports and routes come from the AST rather than from the model's memory of the code.
  • Architecture and data-flow sections include Mermaid diagrams generated from the dependency graph.
  • Code examples are taken from the parsed sources; the writer is not asked to invent them.

Read and copy

Generated files appear in the Docs tab, grouped by type. Each file can be copied or downloaded on its own, which is handy when you only need the ARCHITECTURE page or one CODE_DOC entry.

Export

The CLI writes every generated document for a repository into a local folder:

dxnx docs export owner/repo --dir ./docs

Files land under ./docs/<owner>-<repo>/.... The owner is part of the directory name so that two repositories with the same name do not overwrite each other.

From the dashboard you can copy or download Markdown, and export PDF and Notion pages. Static-site export is not part of v1.

Sync to GitHub

Doxynix does not push to your branch on its own. To get generated files into the repository, stage them and open a pull request:

dxnx staging add <filePath>
dxnx pr open owner/repo

dxnx staging add reads a local file and keeps the path you pass as its path in the repository. dxnx staging list shows what is currently staged, and dxnx staging drop <filePath> removes an entry. The dashboard offers the same staging and pull request flow.

Per-file docs

Generate documentation for a single file without running a whole repository analysis:

dxnx docs generate src/foo.ts

The Markdown is printed to the terminal; --output <file> saves it instead. To keep a single-file audit as permanent repository documentation, pin it:

dxnx docs pin src/foo.ts

Pinning creates a document from the most recent audit of that file, so it survives later analyses.

Regenerate

Running an analysis again regenerates the selected document types for the current branch. Earlier runs stay in history — 7 days on Hobby, 90 days on Pro and unlimited on Team — and dxnx analyze history lists them.
